The Dawn of Warlords

By alex

I’m just rubbish at this updates thing now..

I’m not going to make promises about updating the site but I’m going to try at least to document my rise to level 100 over the coming week.

Reflecting back on Mists of Pandaria I have really enjoyed all of the really I have!

There have been highs and lows during the last 2 years for sure.

Pandaria bought with it some really cool stuff: Loads of reps to farm, about a billion daily quests, loads of cool rare mobs with even cooler toys, Really fun and interesting raids, compelling story telling. Its all been great to me, and I’ve really loved the look and feel of the zones, the music, the narration. Brilliant. I hope we hear from Lorewalker Cho again soon!

Tilling was really fun, I look forward to more of that in Warlords of Draenor in the garrisons.

The last couple of months have been a little drawn out – no-one likes waiting for content especially when its been over a year since the last major patch.

The release of 6.0 a few weeks ago has revitalized my connection to the game, going back and solo’ing old content and getting achievements and mounts I’d missed on before, gathering even more gear for transmog!

Anywhoo here are some screenies and a quick video that kinda sums up Mists of Pandaria!

The Future of WoW and The Project.

Hey peeps! Lets get this thing going! New years resolution and all!

So this is probably old news to most but WARLORDS OF DRAENOR is coming this year (hopefully!)

Click for Trailer Link!

I wanted to touch on each of the new features that are coming.

  • New continent of Draenor (7 zones, 1 PvP zone)

This is going to be pretty cool – getting to go back to Draenor before the Outland was formed. One of my favourite zones in WoW is Nagrand so I’m really looking forward to spending time there again!

  • Build and upgrade your Garrison

The Garrison feature is pretty cool, and about as close to player housing as I think we’re going to get for a long time in WoW. Provided they do it right it could be awesome if they allow for some personal touches to be added to it.

  • A level 90 character upgrade—play immediately!

This one has caused some controversy in the community I’m all for it! Its going to allow me the opportunity to roll a class I’ve been a little lazy in leveling; either a Warrior, Monk or Priest. It also looks like they’re adding the ability to purchase additional 90’s. I’m guessing that Blizzard are gearing up for a Free to Play model as this is how most MMO’s are now-a-days. I could be wrong about that, but its nice for us people who have a large amount of 90’s! (Paladin, Mage, Shaman, Warlock, Druid, Hunter, and I have a Rogue at 88 and Death Knight at 86)

  • New player character models

Now this really is exciting! From what we’ve seen so far everything is looking amazing! I cant wait for more pictures and models to play with on the WoD page to look at.

  • 6 new Dungeons and 2 new Raids
  • New class talents and permanent ability bonuses
  • New Challenge modes
  • New Battlegrounds and World Bosses
  • New Normal and Heroic Scenarios

Run of the mill stuff here.

  • Heroic versions of 2 classic Dungeons

Always happy to go back and do hard versions of classic dungeons! It’s always worked really well in the past, Deadmines being a really good example of how the re-worked it to fit in with the new lore for the Westfall area.

  • Level cap raised to 100

Back to the 10 levels in an expansion! Along with the item level squash.

  • Refined quest system with hundreds of new quests

Intrigued to see how this will work and what changes are happening.

So on top of all that I played through most of Pandaria, after not doing too much in Cata till the end really due to Family commitments(Had a baby!!) Our guild had been doing really strong till the current patch and everything sorta fell apart. Everyone is pretty much on a break at the moment including myself.

I’ve been filling my time on The Project! “Whats that Alex?” I hear you cry! Well My sister and I have decided to go to the London midnight release for Warlords IN COSTUME!

I’ve decided on a Stormwind Guard:

I’ve started things off with the shield – it seemed a logical place to get started as its a pretty big part of the costume. Its constructed of 3 large parts layed together then I build it up with paper mache, applied 2 straps.

I’ve applied the Stormwind Logo to the shield now and its starting to take shape!

Next I started working on the tabard. This has been a real test of my patience!! My poor fingers! I printed out a Stormwind Logo, and cut out the peices and cut out the logo in felt then sewed it onto the tabard i purchased from eBay. I got my mother to help with the ribbon as she has a sewing machine.

2014-01-17 21.39.59

2014-01-18 22.35.37

Its looking pretty cool and just needs a few bits sewed on to complete it.

Next I’ve started working on the pauldrons. I have a wow model viewer so I can really examine the pieces up close to see whats required and get a real close up as well.

2014-01-31 22.11.49I think I’ve got the height ok!!

2014-02-01 17.27.15Using the hot-glue gun I’ve made it really sturdy, doubled up on all the cardboard etc so its pretty strong. I’ll be adding a layer of card-foam as well so it should be pretty rock solid and less cardboardy.

Anyway, that’ll do for now! Hope there’s anyone at all out there reading!!

Let me know in the comments!

Honeymoon – Days 7 & 8

By alex

Hey guys – double post for you here as I was too busy yesterday to write one!

So day 7 was spent almost exclusively at Universal Studios – Hollywood.

Even though it was drizzling all day we still had a great time. Some of the experiences there are really cool especially Waterworld and the Terminator 3D show. The simpsons rise is awesome and should be checked out as well!

After the park closed we ate at the hard rock cafe at the universal lot. That was quite cool too!

We were both quite tired after that and knowing I had a 4 or 5 hour drive the next day we got an early night.

Day 8 started with an early breakfast and a trip to the bank to change some travellers cheques.

Then we hit the road and started our epic journey to Vegas!

The drive was very easy actually. We stopped a couple of times for food and nature breaks!

We arrived at Vegas just before 3pm. Driving down the strip was amazing. It was jam packed full of people. We checked in and unpacked our stuff then went for a walk down the strip. My sister and her boyfriend have paid for us to go to Medieval Times while we’re out here, but didn’t realise that there wasn’t one here in Vegas, there is however the Tournament of Kings at the Excalibur hotel which is the same thing more or less. In fact I imagine it’d be bigger and better!

Annoyingly the show wasn’t on last night so we booked our tickets for today’s showing and headed back out to the strip. We went in some shops and looked around the M&M’s store! That thing has 4 floors!! Crazy!

Later we went to an Irish bar called MacMillans just off the strip. A guy I know works there. We had a fun time there as there was a pub quiz that we came last in!!

Today we’ve got the Tournament of Kings and a flight around the grand canyon to look forward to!!

Honeymoon – Day 6

By alex

Another short update for you!

Day 6 was a lot of driving! We left the tiny place we were at last night, San Simeon, and made our way to Los Angeles. 230 miles!

The trip was pretty much uneventful for the most part, aside from the odd stop here and there we just drove. We arrived just after midday, checked in, then went for a drive.

Toured through Hollywood then Beverly Hills, then down to the beach!

Tomorrow we’re doing universal studios!

Honeymoon – Day 5

By alex

Hey guys gonna be a short entry for this one as I’m having o write it a day late cos the crumby hotel we stayed at only had wifi available in the lobby!

We set off from Monterey and headed to our next destination: San Simeon.

The drive was beautiful if only ruined by the fog! Damn fog obscured most of the route. We stumbled across a vista point where a load of elephant seals were chilling out (see pics) before heading back north.

About a mile from the hotel we stopped at a place called Hearst Castle. Intrigued about what the Americans called a castle we decided to take the tour! The visitor centre is about 5 miles away from the actual place and we had to get on a coach to get there. The castle was built/owned by William Hearst back in the 1920’s till the 40’s. I won’t go into the history lesson but he had lots of famous people come to visit like Charlie Chaplin and Gretta Garbo. The grounds were amazing. Our tour guide, Tim, said that it was nicknamed the castle but was never called that back when it was in use. All sorts of building styles were utilised in the construction.

After the tour was over we headed to our hotel in San Simeon. What a dive!! No hot water from the taps, towel were tiny, no wifi in the rooms, and to cap it all off there was literally nothing to do or see! We ended up driving 10 miles down the road to the next town to get something to eat.
