Watching a Guild Destroy Itself..
Hey guys, Hope all of you are well and enjoying the last few weeks of the summer.
I wanted to talk about guilds and how this time of year seems to put a strain on them – especially semi-hardcore raiding guilds like the one I’m in.
Rage had this very problem last year and manged to get over it, but this year seems different. I’m sure you all know what I’m talking about – Summer AFK’s.
Everyone like the summer, its a time to go outside and enjoy the fine weather, eat BBQ’d food and get some well needed sunlight onto our pasty white bodies! ROFL!
This year has been a tough one for Rage in that we’ve lost our fair share of people temporarily to summer holidays but also we’ve lost a few good people permanently – be that moving on to another guild or quitting WoW altogether, and it seems more casualties are on the way.
Things seemed to be going well, we almost had Yogg-saron down, our first 25-man jaunt into the Tournament was a sucess and we could blow through most of ulduar in a evening. But then we were struck by the Summer, and to make it worse it seems that there’s not much interest in the 10-man content either so getting anything together is virtually impossible.
Saying that we have managed to clear all the bosses thus far (aside from the Anub’arak) in 10-man TotCrusader and that new boss in the Vault of Archavon (who’s a joke btw!!)
To cap it all off our main raid leaders and few others have all gone on holiday together to Cyprus and are all currently enjoying a well earned holiday! Sadly for me I was not able to attend this year due to buying my apartment, but that’s more important than a holiday! If the guild are still together maybe I’ll get the chance to go next year.
So the next 2 to 3 weeks are critical to Rage if things are going to move forward. I’ve spoken to the Class Leader of another guild who I’ve been friends with a long time and he says I can probably find a spot in his guild.
Fingers Crossed…

I think everyone sympathises with this! I hope your guild makes it through.
It looked for a while like we’d have the same problem in my guild, Forgotten Heroes, so we took some drastic action. We recruited more people, with a view to cycling people round more. I think WotLK raiding has changed the way we view/manage raiding guilds. We’ve watched more progressed guilds fall apart on my server this summer while we’re still raiding, progressing and having fun.
