Upcoming 3.2 Retribution Changes..

By alex

Ok…so the dust has settled a bit, and I’ve calmed down a little from reading the initial stuff.

So I’m not going to go over everything again – most of the big hitters have already nit picked everything to the nth degree.

Anyway I wanna make a few comments on a few of the things coming in 3.2

So Seal of the Martyr/Blood has passed to the great pile of discarded abilities in the sky, and I’m thankful for this. Its been a liability since the day it was created. This change should have happened when Blizzard gave the Alliance the seal. Instead all it did was make Seal of Command worthless other than a leveling dps talent.

The new Seal of Command seems to be interesting – “This seal now deals 36% weapon damage on every swing” Interesting indeed. “All melee attacks deal additional Holy damage.” So Command will do damage on every single melee attack: Crusader Strike, Divine Storm and White Damage. Guaranteed! I imagine this’ll get nerfed eventually.

To be honest considering Blizzard said they were going to be revamping Retribution, I didn’t think sorting out Seal of Command would be the answer. I guess we all had delusions of greater and grander things.

One question about Exorcism. They’ve put back the cast time on this, and given Art of War the ability to make it instant again. Pointless. This just gives Mages another spell to counter. Making us even more useless in PvP. The only way this would be a good change is to remove the cool down on the spell.

I just wanna get into the PTR. Like NOW.

Basically, SoC will virtually match the current incarnation of SoB, without the feedback damage. In fact, the damage will be slightly less (SoB does 46% of weapon damage as Holy IIRC).

Very, very simply, it's pretty much a wash for Ret PvE. Damage may or may not be slightly up depending on changes to AoW mechanics and Judgement damage. But there is nothing in the patch notes which makes Ret PvE more interesting.

Ret PvP is pretty much boned, with these and the Resilience changes crippling Burst.

Yeah…. if they removed the cd on Exorcism could you imagine the Holy dps builds that would come out of that? Holy paladins could go from one button healers to one button dps!

Really the biggest thing the exorcism change effects is prot tanking.

In its current incarnation you can't use exorcism period in pvp so being able to use this in pvp at all should make you gratefull even if it is based off of an art of war proc.

So I parked myself at the target dummies last night on the PTR and just went to town…

PVE impression
I LOVE the changes.

Burst – Has been gutted.

Single Target DPS -
Way way boosted. Once SoV gets full dps jumps up. The good news is that it takes all of about 3 seconds for it to reach 5.

AoE DPS -
Its actually up. It just takes more to get it started. DS applies SoV to everything it hits so after a few "rotations" you are seeing some large numbers tick from things you aren't targeting. I have about 3800 unbuffed AP and a 5-stack was ticking for about 1200.

A few side notes.
1. Glyph of SoV has not changed yet. Still gives 10 expertise.

2. The new Triumph badge Libram rocks. There doesn't seem to be any internal cooldown. When I had SoV on 3 mobs it was refreshing the +200 strength buff every tick.

3. Bold Dragon's Eyes are +34 Strength now.

4. Epic Red uncut gems are 15 heroism badges. (stock up, because titanium takes 450 to prospect.)

Did some testing on the PTR. Could not test dps real well as instances were down as were battlegrounds. From target dummy testing and world pvp, my thoughts are…..

PvE: We are ok, maybe even slightly better dps.

PvP: The boost to resilience and the loss of our burst damage is going to hurt us in PvP.
